Join us in celebration and worship as Antioch “organizes” into a particular congregation of Calvary Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) on Friday, November 15, 2024. Doors open at 6 PM, and the service is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM. The service will likely last about 90 minutes or so, and then followed by a dessert reception at the ice cream shop at the corner of Highways 101 and 417, in the old Cashville Schoolhouse. Dr. Scott Cook of Oconee Presbyterian Church will be preaching on 1 John 3:16-18, “By This We Know Love.” Participants in the Calvary Presbytery Organization Commission include:
- TE Joshua Martin, Palmetto Hills Presbyterian Church of Simpsonville, SC (Convener)
- TE E. Todd Buchner, Christians Teaching Christians
- TE Scott Cook, Oconee Presbyterian Church of Seneca, SC
- TE Paul Sanders, Christ Community Presbyterian Church of Simpsonville, SC
- TE Richard Thomas, Mount Calvary Presbyterian Church of Walnut Grove, SC
- RE Melton L. Duncan, Sr., Second Presbyterian Church of Greenville, SC
- RE Richard “Rik” Hollifield, Roebuck Presbyterian Church of Roebuck, SC
- RE William “Bill” Johnson, Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church of Simpsonville, SC
- RE Theodore “Terry” Richards, Fellowship Presbyterian Church of Greer, SC
In an Organization Service, the members of a mission work “solemnly promise and covenant that [they] will walk together as a particular church, on the principles of the faith and order of the Presbyterian Church in America, and that [they] will be zealous and faithful in maintaining the purity and peace of the whole body” (Book of Church Order 5-9). Also, men from the congregation who have been duly nominated, trained, examined, and elected to the office of Ruling Member will be ordained and installed, thus constituting a resident session, or board of elders, for the church. Finally, it is typical that a minister or ministers will be installed at the same service, and such is the case for Antioch as Pastor Zachary Groff and Dr. Joseph A. Pipa, Jr. will be installed as co-pastors.
